Southland's 7th Graders Tour Washington, D.C.

The Southland Academy seventh graders recently toured the National Capital and surrounding area for five days. The students visited historical sites in Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Arlington, Virginia, as well as Washington D.C. While in Washington, the students toured the U.S. Capitol, White House, Arlington National Cemetery, the National Cathedral, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial Wall, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian National History Museum, the Memorial to Fallen Law Enforcement Officers (which includes Nick Smarr’s and Jody Smith’s names) and the Pentagon. Twelve adults, including Assistant Headmaster and Mrs. Clint Humphrey, US Lt. Colonel and Mrs. Steve Fuller, Mrs. Laura Rooks, Mrs. April Duke, Mrs. Dannie Griffin, Mrs. Whitney  Crisp, Mrs. Sandy Exley, Mrs. Katie Smarr, Mrs. Karen Cook, and forty Southland seventh graders enjoyed this educational and adventurous trip directed by Mrs. Susan Welch, Georgia and U. S. History teacher at Southland.
