The fourth grade students at Southland Academy worked enthusiastically and diligently with art teacher, Mrs. Kristy Swinson, to create their 2017 My Place Project. This project combines the fourth graders' thoughts into one organized representation of who they are as a class as well as individuals. The My Place assignment gave the students a chance to look at themselves and to actually say what they think about who they are and where they actually fit in the school, their homes, and this community. As a class they focused on six areas that they feel are significant in their lives: sports, community helpers, medical personnel, school, church, and farming.

"One of the great things about some of the fourth graders is how much laughter they bring to others and make people happy. This is something we can always do no matter how young or old we are." Southland Academy wishes to thank The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia the Americus Chapter for allowing our students to participate in the 2017 My Place project. The students said, "We have learned so much about ourselves and each other. We realize that even as students and, of course, as adults we can have a positive influence on our school, home, community, country and even the world."
