8^th Grade Composition

This class is a beginning composition course with an emphasis on the basic writing structure and style.  The course will address such areas as writing effective sentences, developing a paragraph, and learning to use effective elaboration.  The student will learn several modes of writing including narrative, descriptive, and comparison/contrast. 

1. Be prepared for class each day.  This includes the following:
1. textbook (the same as in English class)
2. paper and work folder
3. pencils
4. other materials as instructed including flash drive

1. All writing must be done in the classroom, and then we will type in a computer lab.  If you do not finish within class time, you must make arrangements to stay after school or to come before school to finish.  No writing or printing will be done at home!

1. You are responsible for all assignments whether you are present or absent.  According to the Southland Handbook, if you are absent for one day, you have one day to make up the missed work.  If you are absent for more than one day, you need to see me so that we can make arrangements.  Work will be posted on the school's website per week.  Remember that all assignments are subject to change.

1. Students will be evaluated in two areas:  daily work/compositions (50%) and tests/major compositions (50%).  The final composition will be completed the last week before exams (either semester or final) in class.

Parents:  Please sign below and return this entire sheet to school as soon as possible.  I will send a copy home with your child after all of them have been returned to me. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
