Course Description
This is a literature-based course focusing on the novel, short story, poetry, biography, mythology, non-fiction, and drama. Students will be exposed to SAT words in preparation for the SAT test.. Literary elements which pertain to each story will be taught in relation to the stories that are read.. In hopes of improving higher order thinking, students will be figuring out relationships as they work on analogies.

Classroom Procedures
Class begins when the tardy bell rings. All should be SEATED at this time, copying the assignment from the board. Visit the restroom, the locker, and the drinking fountain on your own time. Plan accordingly. Tardies will be handled according to school policy.

Attendance
If you are absent, you may check the web site at www.southlandacademy.org for any assignments you may have missed. It would be a good practice to get a study partner that you can call to verify any assignments you may have missed. Remember, it is your responsibility to make up any missed work.
