Raiders Reaching Out

Southland Academy believes in promoting citizenship in our school and our community. Because of this, Southland Academy is incorporating a service learning program, Raiders Reaching Out, as a required part of our curriculum.

Graduation Requirements:
Class of 2014- 10 hours
Class of 2015 – 20 hours
Class of 2016- 30 hours
Class of 2017 and subsequent graduating classes- 40 hours

  • Southland suggests the students use the guideline of accumulating 10 hours per year.  Students may work ahead but should not fall behind in the accumulation of hours.
  • Students may begin accumulating hours the summer prior to the freshman year.
  • Service forms are available in the main office and online.  The forms must be signed by a supervisor and turned in to the counselor.
  • October 1 - deadline to turn forms in for serviced rendered during the summer. 
  • May 1 - deadline for seniors to turn in forms for service rendered throughout the year.
  • May 15 - deadline for underclassmen to turn in forms for service rendered throughout the year.
  • Students may not serve in connection with family member's employment of place of business.  Parents or family members may not sign the form for their own child.
  • Beginning with the class of 2017, students may earn a totla of 16 hours in service to Southland Academy.
         Class of 2014 may have 4 school hours
         Class of 2015 may have 8 school hours
         Class of 2016 may have 12 school hours
  • Beginning with the class of 2017, students may earn a total of 20 hours in service to faith-based organizations.
         Class of 2014 may have 5 faith-based hours.
         Class of 2015 may have 10 faith-based hours.
         Class of 2016 may have 15 faith-based hours.
  • Southland Academy will recognize the senior with the greatest amount of service on Honors Day.

Below is a list of possible locations to receive volunteer hours.  Students are certainly not restricted to only these be are encouraged to have prior approval if necessary.
